Frequently Asked Questions
What types of businesses do you work with?
We work with offices, commercial and manufacturing businesses, as well as selected industrial environments, providing practical, site-specific Occupational Health & Safety compliance solutions.
Do small businesses need OHS documentation?
Yes. All employers in South Africa are required to comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, regardless of business size.
The extent of documentation depends on the size and risk profile of the workplace. Small, low-risk offices typically require simplified, relevant documentation rather than large industrial safety files.
Are emergency procedures the same as emergency signage?
No. Emergency signage (such as exit signs and assembly points) supports emergency response, but emergency procedures refer to written, site-specific documents outlining evacuation processes, responsibilities, emergency contacts, and response actions.
Both are required for effective compliance.
Do we need a Health & Safety Representative or Section 16 appointment?
Formal health and safety appointments depend on the size and nature of the business.
Small offices with few employees are generally not required to appoint a Health & Safety Representative or Section 16.2, but a designated safety contact person and first aid responsibility is considered good practice.
Is your training accredited?
Signature Safety ZA provides OHS Act–aligned, non-unit standard training suitable for workplace compliance. We are SAQA qualified and have a wide range of health and safety awareness courses to offer as well as flexible tailored training sessions
Where SETA or QCTO unit standard accreditation is required, training is facilitated through our accredited training partners.
Can OHS documentation be completed remotely?
Yes. For low-risk office environments, many OHS documents can be developed remotely using information supplied by the client, supported by photographs or virtual walkthroughs where necessary
